We are planning to add an Axiom 9 to our binnacle location (48' sailboat). E and ES series MFDs (as I understand it) use the hard controls in case the touch screen isn't operable due to water splashing, rain, etc. The new Axioms do not have hard controls, but the RMK-10 is sold as a separate remote. We will also have an Axiom 7 at our nav station, so it's not like we totally lose control of seeing charts. The question becomes, is an RMK-10 required or advised when using an Axiom MFD in outdoor/exposed conditions?
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum KBK,

It is considered to be a best installation practice to install a RMK-9/10 for use with any MFD having a touch screen - only interface which will be operated under conditions where the MFD's screen will exposed rain, wave, spray, etc. which may impair the ability to interact with a touch screen. This best installation practice has not changed the introduction of the Axiom MFDs.
