I am installing a E-80 chartplotter, it is one I used as a spare on my big boat. Sold the big boat and am installing this on a rebuild project. I do not have the gps (0183) raymarine cable, I see the pin designations on line and think I could build a connector for the 0183 connection, but I wonder if there is another way to bring that gps data into the unit. I have a Raymarine SeaTalk Hs high speed network switch with several spare cables, can I bring that gps data into the switch using these cables and then feed the E-80 chartplotter through the switch cables?

A1. It is not possible to interface GPS sensor to the system in the manner which you have suggested. When operating with the v5.69 E-Series Classic MFD software, the E-Series Classic MFDs support receiving GPS data from a source supporting or has been adapted to support SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 (recommended), SeaTalk, or NMEA 0183 communications. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how a Raystar 150 GPS Sensor may be adapted to be interfaced to an E-Series Classic MFD.
Thanks for your detailed response, I will pursue your suggested fix.
You're welcome.
