Determining a route's sequence following a succession of REVERSE or REVERSE AND FOLLOW commands

Unlike the designs of some manufacturers chartplotting and navigational software products, the sequence of routes created with Raymarine chartplotting products is not permanent. Specifically, the route's saved sequence will be reversed each time that the operator commands the MFD to REVERSE or to and REVERSE AND FOLLOW a route. Accordingly, it is recommended that the operator consider displaying the Route's Plan (ex. for MFDs running LightHouse 3 software, the command sequence MENU->WAYPOINTS, ROUTES, TRACKS->ROUTES->Select the desired route->VIEW ROUTE PLAN) to ensure that the route is currently in the desired sequence before commanding the MFD to follow the route. Alternatively, the operator may display the Waypoint Information Navigation data item within the MFD's Databar / or with a Databox / Data Overlay where the route's origin or destination waypoint will be specified. Each time that the MFD is commanded to follow a route or reverse and follow a route, then the Waypoint Information data item may be inspected to ensure that name of waypoint specified within this data item is consistent with the desired route sequence. If not, then the Chart application will need to be commanded to stop following the route and the same route would then need to be reversed and followed.

A feature request has been logged to consider leaving routes in there initially created sequence, thereby permitting them to be given names which are truly indicative of their permanent origin and destination and the route's sequence. When navigating, the MFDs would make a working copy of the route which would then be followed within its original sequence or may be reversed and then followed when commanded to do so.
