Full Version: [CA11] Ray52 compatibility with Axiom 7

I have recently added a Ray52 VHF to my powerboat. It came with no electronics other than the Mercury engine management gauges.

I am looking at purchasing an Axiom 7 with Navionics and the primary purpose will be for navigation.

Is there any benefit or reason to connect the Ray52 to the Axiom 7?
Will the Ray52 pass DSC info to the Axiom?
If I do connect them, will it be through NEMA2000 or SeaTalk?

Thank you
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum cdnwhaler,

As the Ray52 features an internal GPS sensor to support transmitting your vessel's position within VHF transmission, most would only consider interfacing the MFD to support one of the following:
- permit the MFD to plot DSC position reports received by the VHF radio, and/or
- permit the VHF radio to use GPS data from the marine electronics system because th installation location of the VHF radio will not permit it to acquire or maintain a GPS position FIX.

The Ray52 and MFD would each typically be interfaced as individual spurs to a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how a simple backbone may be constructed.
