I have a new Axiom 9 and I am unable to update the software with a good WiFi connection. The update starts and downloads the majority of the software but I then receive a notification that it did not download. I have tried several times with no luck.

Are you using marina wi-fi or connecting to your phone data? Usually this happens due to poor wifi and eventually the download times out.
I would recommend on this occasion to update the Axiom via an sd card rather than online via the MFD. The instructions and software update to do this are available
