Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Bob,
The ax8/eSx8 MFDs feature internal DownVision / CPT-S (low power / high frequency) CHIRP fishfinder circuitry. Unfortunately, DownVision, CPT-S, and RealVision sonar is not suited for in-hull applications. DownVision, CPT-S, RealVision, and SideVision sonar is dependent upon use of transducers which are in direct contact with the water. Unlike Axiom DV and Axiom RV MFDs, the ax8/eSx8 MFDs are not designed to be directly mated to other types of fishfinder transducers. If seeking to add fishfinder features via an in-hull transducer, then it would be recommended that a CP370 Fishfinder Sounder Module and a compatible in-hull transducer (ex. P79, M260, etc.) be installed and that the CP370 then be interfaced to the ax8/eSx8 MFD. If seeking to simply depth sounding which would produce a numerical depth value to the system, then a T70278 P79S In-Hull Depth Transducer may be interfaced as a spur to a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone to which the MFD has also been interfaced as a spur. If seeking to have the system additionally support depth offset and depth alarm features, then an i70S MFID would additionally need to be interfaced as a spur to the aforementioned backbone.
