I have the Smart Controller remote for my autopilot and was wondering if the LCD display is supposed to have a backlight. Mine does not, and if it should I would like to return it for repair.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Bill,
The SmartController's Backlight feature may be accessed via the command sequence MENU->USER SETTINGS->BACKLIGHT and offers three levels of backlighting in addition to the OFF setting.

Chuck - this works for the backlight on the buttons but I do not see any backlight on the LED display. I assume this means that I will need to send in the remote for repair.

Indeed the SmartController's LCD should illuminate as well. Should yours not be doing so, then it would be recommended that it be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.
