C120W chart spins in circles - kkosciusko - 09-12-17 12:38 PM

Hello!

We have been having an intermittent issue with our C120W chartplotter. The chart starts turning 360. This does not occur all the time. if the autopilot is on at the time it gets confused and takes a hard turn. Also, noticed for the first time the other day that the position and orientation of the boat was not correct on chart while at anchor. Don't know if that's related, or a new problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum kkosciusko,

It sounds as though you may be having an issue with the heading data produced by the autopilot system. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject. Please additionally note that within this generation of MFDs, the Chart was designed to orient based on COG data. Should the vessel be stationary or maneuvering at very slow speed, then random COG may result in seemingly random rotation of the chart. Accordingly when maneuvering or stationary and such rotation occurs, then it is recommended that the MFD be configured to North-Up chart orientation. The generation of MFDs which followed the C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs will instead orient to heading (when present) rather than COG. In systems lacking a heading source, the generation of MFDs which followed the C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs will automatically revert to North-up chart orientation when the vessel be stationary or maneuvering at very slow speed.

Thanks, I will look at info regarding calibration, although I did not notice that we had lost our heading while underway and we have been at cruising speed when it has happened. Once the chart starts spinning it hasn't stopped and we have had to turn it off and not use it until the next time. May be back with more questions after calibration research!

kkosciusko,

It is additionally recommended that you verify that the Chart application has been configured to Head-Up, not Course-Up orientation.
