NMEA 0183 on Axiom AIS? - robin_leveille - 11-05-17 02:40 PM

Does Update "v3.2.92" on Axiom with the "NMEA0183 support" enable use of sentences from a Standard Horizon 2200 AIS into SeatalkNG network to display AIS targets without the use of an Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS or bridging device?

Thanks.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Robin,

Note: While the SH GX2200 features a NMEA 0183 communications interface, it does not feature a NMEA 2000 communications interface.

Unlike the Axiom Pro MFDs, the Axiom MFDs do not feature a NMEA 0183 communications interface. Accordingly, should the system of Axiom MFDs not feature at least one Axiom Pro MFD, then it would be necessary interface the 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 AIS data source to a NMEA 0183 to SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 data bridging device (ex. Actisense NGW-1-ISO-AIS, etc.), which in turn would be interfaced to the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone to which the Data Master MFD has been interfaced. When so interfaced the, the Data Master Axiom MFD would simply treat the 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 AIS data source as NMEA 2000 AIS data source.

Should the system feature an Axiom Pro MFD, then the MFD's NMEA 0183 leads of one of its two NMEA 0183 input ports need simply be interfaced to the 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 output leads of the NMEA 0183 AIS source and then the MFD's NMEA 0183 set-up would be configured to "AIS 38400".
