[CA] AIS700 and E120 - laroux - 03-06-18 12:00 PM

Will the AIS700 work with my E120 and E80? I have one port open on my SeaTalk HS switch (currently have the two displays and sirius weather) and an open SeaTalk available.

If So what additional cables such as Sea Talk NG to HS will I need.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum laroux,

Q1. Will the AIS700 work with my E120 and E80?
A1. Yes.

Q2. I have one port open on my SeaTalk HS switch (currently have the two displays and sirius weather) and an open SeaTalk available. If So what additional cables such as Sea Talk NG to HS will I need.
A2. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing how an AIS receiver / transceiver must be interfaced to an E-Series Classic MFD.

I have a 2007 Catalina Morgan 440 with E-120 and E-80 displays, and a Smart Pilot with a S3G computer. I am looking at adding an AIS700 to my boat. I understand that it must be integrated with my E-120 via the 0183 interface. The current configuration uses the 0183 to receive data from the S3G Smart Pilot computer to the E-120 (I believe it is for data from the flux gate compass data). If I connect all 4 0183 wires to the AIS700 running at 38400 baud, can/should I reroute the 0183 (running at 4800 baud) from the S3G to the purple and pink wires of the AIS, and will the data get to the E-120 via the 3840 baud 0183 from the AIS?

laroux,

Q1. If I connect all 4 0183 wires to the AIS700 running at 38400 baud, can/should I reroute the 0183 (running at 4800 baud) from the S3G to the purple and pink wires of the AIS?
A1. Negative. The NMEA 0183 OUT+ and OUT- leads from the autopilot course computer should be interfaced to the AIS700's 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN+(gray) and 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 IN- (yellow) leads respectively.

Q2. will the data get to the E-120 via the 3840 baud 0183 from the AIS?
A2. If interfaced as specified within my response to Q1, then the system will indeed receive AIS data from the AIS700, as well as heading and rudder angle data from the autopilot course computer.
