[DG11] S1 Smartpilot with Raymarine Smart Heading Sensor and control unit - veitladurner - 01-22-19 08:57 PM

Hi, I have the following equipment disponibel:

1. Raymarine E12117 S1 Smart Pilot
2. Raymarine E12102 Smart Heading Sensor
3. Raymarine E12196 ST70 Control unit
4. Raypilot 650

My questions are the following:

1. Can I combine the ST70 Control unit with the S1 Smart Pilot using Sea Talk or do I have to buy a Seatalk to Seatalk NG converter kit.
2. Can I use the Raypilot with the S1 Smart Pilot
3. Does the fluxgate compass has to be connected to the Smart Pilot or to the Heading Sensor?
3. Does the control unit has to be connected to the Smart Pilot or to the Heading Sensor?
4. Do I need a Raymarine multifunctional display to calibrate the Autopilot?

Thanks for your answers.

Hi veitladurner

Thank you for your enquiry.

The ST70 product has a setting called MASTERSHIP, this enables it to operate in SEATALK1 mode and so can be connected direct via SeaTalk1 to the Smartpilot course computer.

The Raypilot 650 control unit can be used with the Smartpilot, however, it will only control the autopilot, you cannot use it to modify any calibration settings.

The fluxgate compass should ALWAYS be connected direct to the Smartpilot course computer

The control units are connected to SeaTalk1 only, which is then connected direct to the Smartpilot course computer

The Autopilot is calibrated through the control unit, not the MFD

Thanks
Derek

Hi Derek, that sounds very good, one question, I will need a data cable for my ST70 to connect it via Seatalk1, could you give me the correct item number to order it. Thanks, Veit

Dear veitladurner,

Thank you for your response.

The ST1 to STng adaptor cables are as follows;

ST1 to STng spur 400mm is A06047
ST1 to STng spur 1m is A06073

When connecting the ST70 directly to the S1 course computer, you will need to cut the ST1 female plug off to expose the bare wires to plug directly into the ST1 terminals on the course computer.

Many Thanks
Louise
