[DG11] Upgrade path from A50 X30 to accommodate radar - gauvins - 07-17-19 05:40 AM

What are the options to add a radar to our system? My current understanding is that we should get an MFD+Radar bundle. We would ditch the A50 but could still integrate the X30 pilot.

Sub question. Our MFD came with European charts. We are coming back to America. Can we purchase an American MFD and transfer the European maps?

Hi gauvins

The MFD and Radar bundle is the way to go and ditch the a50 - or run it independantly as a standalone backup.

The Current MFDs use STng, ( Raymarine's equivalent of NMEA2000 - they are compatible incidently) and so an E22158 converter would be used to connect the new MFD STng backbone network to the current Seatalk network including the SPX30. This will enable all current SeaTalk data to be shared with the new MFD.

With regards to EU and USA variants - Raymarine do not make different versions of the Radar and MFD Bundle for the EU and USA, all that is required is the appropriate cartography for the region you will be sailing in.
