[CA11] A78 to vhf - sharkbite42 - 07-23-19 07:13 AM

I have an e125, e127 and a A78. All networked with a Raynet to Raynet cable. The E-125 is my master. Can I network my icon vhf, directly out of the back of the a78 with a cut end spur cable? Or do I have to buy the vhf 0183 converter kit?

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum sharkbite42,

Q. Can I network my icon vhf, directly out of the back of the a78 with a cut end spur cable?
A1. It is not possible to interface the VHF radio to the system in the manner which you have specified.

Q2. Or do I have to buy the vhf 0183 converter kit?
A2. This would typically be the method used for Icom VHF radios, as they have historically ignored NMEA 0183 sentences including GPS which did not feature the $GP NMEA 0183 Talker ID. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject. Alternatively, should the internal GPS receiver of the e125 MFD or e127 MFD be used as the system's GPS data source, then the NMEA 0183 output leads of that MFD may be interfaced to the NMEA 0183 input leads of the VHF radio to supply it with GPS data.
