[CA11] Depth finder vs fishfinder - Timmacdonald - 09-29-19 11:15 AM

I have a transducer connected to an autohelm tridata. I’ve started to lose bottom in anything over 30 feet. The hull was recently scraped so I believe the transducer is going bad.

Question: are there any depth reading/navigational/anchoring benefits of a fishfinder vs just replacing the transducer. I don’t really need for fishing.

Thanks!
Tim

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Tim,

Indeed there are features found within fishfinding products which are of value to those who do not fish. These include:
- bottom trending / plot ... provides at a glance situational awareness regarding whether depth is increasing or decreasing and how quickly
- bottom hardness ... of value to those who anchor
- structure location (reef, coral head, wrecks, etc.)
