Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Garry,

The symptoms reported are indicative of a failure within the pedestal core. If the 4kW radar a HD Digital 4kW or SHD 4KW, then the radar core should be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be serviced. However, should the 4kW radar be an analog 4kW radar, then the radar pedestal / array assembly and the radar cable will need to be replaced with a Digital Radar Cable and HD Digital 4kW or SHD Digital 4KW Open Array Radar.
