Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Rich,

As you have suggested the CPT-200 can indeed be installed higher on the transom to reduce spray and the dynamic forces that it may be exposed to. I don't suspect that mounting the CPT-200 higher will be an issue for your boat until the speed approaches that which will cause aeration from the step. In short, it is recommended that you proposed location be tested ... I believe that you will find that it works satisfactorily while at trolling speed.
