RE: [CA11] RV-100 Mounting "out of water"
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Jack,

Proper cooling of transducers is necessary to prevent de-lamination of the transducer elements. For cooling purposes, it is recommended that fishfinder transducers always be in contact with the water when being pinged ... or that the ping be disabled whenever the transducer is not in contact with the water. This is particularly important for 1kW and higher output CHIRP transducers. This is less of an issue for very low power transducers such as RealVision, DownVision, SideVision, and CPT-S transducers. As such, it is quite common for RV transducers to be mounted to a jackplate on bass boats, causing them to be completely out of the water when the boat is operating on plane. For RealVision, DownVision, SideVision, and CPT-S transducers, I would suggest that one consider disabling the transducer ping when the transducer will be out of the water for any more than 1/2 hour.
