RE: Troubleshooting external GPS with RL70RC Plus
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Larry,

The NMEA 0183 input buffer monitor feature of a hsb/hsb2/SL Pathfinder Series Displays may be accessed as follows
- press the MENU button
- press the CHART SETUP function key (or second function key from left to right)
- hold the ENTER button pressed until function keys titled BUILT-IN TEST, SEATALK DATA, NMEA DATA, EOL TEST are displayed
- press the NMEA DATA function key
- examine the Received Data column of the NMEA test page ... when receiving data, NMEA 0183 sentences will be observed within the Received Data column. Should no data be observed within the Received Data column, then it would indicated that there is a fault with the NMEA 0183 talker (i.e. the GPS150) or with the display's NMEA 0183 communications circuitry.

From a fault isolation standpoint, the display's NMEA 0183 communications circuitry may be tested by examining its NMEA 0183 Received Data column after connecting it to a 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 talker which is know to be operational and transmitting.
