The plan is to upgrade E120W displays to twin Axiom Pro 12

I am now down to some basic questions:

1. The Volvo engine NMEA2000 gateway is Volvo part 3389757, does this have to be upgraded with a new gateway?

2. The twin Icom VHFs are set up with P & S VHF connected to P & S E120W via NMEA0183/power cord for DSC functionality. They are not connected via multiplexer (familiar with MUX installation with previous boat so I know it is not there). Can this concept be continued with twin Axiom Pro?

3. Can the E120w Power cords with NMEA0183 connections be used with the new Axiom Pro 12?

4. The use of the ST6002/ S3G autopilot with the Axiom display seems kind of clunky. Am I correct that AP control when following a Route will have to be done entirely through the ST6002 control head? I currently prefer to use one of the 120 displays to track progress can control active/standby function. We are in New England and course deviation for lobster pot buoys can be frequent.

5. If the axiom display can not be used with the existing AP, the plan would be to upgrade to the T70214 EV-2 package (although prefer p70Rs to 70r). When reviewing documentation on this package it calls for a IPS gateway, but no part number is provided.
a) is this the same as the Volvo 3819744 currently being used with the S3G?
b) if a new part is this Volvo, or Raymarine? Part number?

6. Can the DSM 30 and existing transducer continue to be used?

7. The RS 125 needs a battery replacement, but once that is done can the 125 continue in service?

8. Can the AIS 650 continue to be used?
a) is there a battery in the AIS 650 GPS and does it need to be serviced?

Thank you for your help.

Hank

RE: [CA11] Another Axiom Pro Upgrade question list
Welcome back to the Raymarine Forum Hank,

Q1. The Volvo engine NMEA2000 gateway is Volvo part 3389757, does this have to be upgraded with a new gateway?
A1. Replacement of the Volvo Engine Gateway with a Raymarine ECI-100 should not be necessary when an EV-2 for Drive-by-Wire Propulsion autopilot is installed.

A2. Yes. However, from the standpoint of providing the VHF radios with GPS data, you may want to consider the solution found here, as it is not dependent upon the MFDs being switched ON.

Q3. Can the E120w Power cords with NMEA0183 connections be used with the new Axiom Pro 12?
A3. Negative. The currently installed E-Series Widescreen MFD Power/NMEA 0183/SeaTalk/Video Cables must be replaced with the Power/NMEA 0183/Video Input Cables supplied with the Axiom Pro MFDs

A4. As you have inferred, the Autopilot Controls feature which you have been accustomed to using with the E-Series Widescreen MFDs and the currently installed autopilot will not be supported should the same autopilot remain within the system which will feature the Axiom Pro MFDs.

Q5a. If the axiom display can not be used with the existing AP, the plan would be to upgrade to the T70214 EV-2 package (although prefer p70Rs to 70r). When reviewing documentation on this package it calls for a IPS gateway, but no part number is provided.
A5a. The p70R was replaced with the p70RS within autopilot system packs several years ago.

Q5b. is this the same as the Volvo 3819744 currently being used with the S3G?
A5b. Yes.

Q5c. if a new part is this Volvo, or Raymarine? Part number?
A5c. Should you not have already had an engine gateway, then Raymarine's ECI-100 would have been recommended for your engine / IPS drive combination.

Q6. Can the DSM 30 and existing transducer continue to be used?
A6. The DSM30/300 fishfinder sounder modules are not officially supported for use with Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL systems. Specifically, these system have not been specifically designed for use with nor officially tested with DSMs. However, anecdotal feedback from customers has indicated no issues thus far in using an operational DSM30/300 with Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL systems. Accordingly, should your DSM300 be operational, then you might want to try it out with the new Axiom system before replacing it with a CP370 fishfinder sounder module. Should there be any sign of issue with the DSM30, then the DSM30 and its Power Cable should be replaced with a CP370 and its Power Cable. When interfaced to these sounder modules and a compatible 50kHz/200kHz transducer, then the Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL MFD will support 50kHz sonar imaging and 200kHz sonar imaging within the MFD's Fishfinder application.

Q7. The RS 125 needs a battery replacement, but once that is done can the 125 continue in service?
A7. Yes

Q8. Can the AIS 650 continue to be used?
A8. Yes.

Q8a. is there a battery in the AIS 650 GPS and does it need to be serviced?
A8a. Negative.
