Raymarine Digital/HD Digital Radomes and HD/Super HD Radar Pedestals will go into sleep mode when a MFD is not sensed within the Raymarine Ethernet network. However, after the MFD is switched ON, then the radome or open or open array should detect the MFD and respond to the MFD's commands. It is considered to be a best installation practice that radomes and radar pedestals be installed on a dedicated breaker or dedicated switched power circuit. Should the radar not awaken after the MFD is powered ON, then the radome or pedestal's power circuit may be switched OFF and then ON again to permit the radar to re-boot and then sense the MFD. Unplugging the Digital Radar Cable from the radome of open array pedestal and then reconnecting it may be used as a testing method to verify whether it restores operation of the radome or pedestal.

Generally, the reported issue is the result of insufficient power being supplied to the radome or open array pedestal. To rule out such issues, it is generally recommended that the vessel batteries be load tested. Should the batteries be determined to be in good shape, then it would be recommended that the vessel be connected to shore power, that its batteries be permitted to be fully charged, and that after the vessel's batteries have been fully charged and while the vessel is still connected to shore power, that the radome or open array pedestal be tested again. Should the problem persist, then it is recommended that the Digital Radar Cable be unplugged from the radome or open array pedestal and that the DC voltage be measured by probing the Digital Radar Cable plug's two largest female pins. For radomes, the measured voltage should be the same voltage level which has been supplied the Digital Radar Cable's power leads. For open array pedestals, the measured voltage should be 42 VDC. Should these voltages be measured, then the Ethernet communications path of the Digital Radar Cable should be tested. Within the radome, you will find that the power leads will separate from the Ethernet communications cable. The Ethernet communications cable may unplugged from the radar core, permitting testing with commonly available Ethernet testing tools.

Should power and Ethernet communications testing not identify a problem with these items, then the radome or open array pedestal core be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.
