[CA11] A95 Upgrade
Is there a recommended upgrade for E70232-LNC? Currently there are a pair of B175 transducers and a CP470 chirp module. Is also networked to various instruments. Also would like to add radar in the future. Thank you. Rich

RE: [CA11] A95 Upgrade
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Rich,

Are you seeking to replace the MFD or simply accessorize it? If so, have you been satisfied with a touchscreen-only interface or would you be seeking a MFD which additionally has buttons and a UniController? Are you seeking to locate birds with a radar system or simply seeking to using it for navigation and collision avoidance when operating in periods of reduced visibility?

RE: [CA11] A95 Upgrade
Hi Chuck. Looking to replace the A95. Looking to replace the MFD with one of similar size. The touch screen has been locking up. I understand the RMK-10 can be added till the screen comes back after drying out. Should we just get the RMK-10? Space for mounting it is limited. Hoping an upgraded unit solves the touch screen moisture issue. A hybrid unit would be nice. May be interested in the birds radar but the navigation/collision avoidance unit at a minimum. Want to use the current N2K network, transducers and sonar module. Not sure if NMEA 0183 is currently used. Sorry for the confusion.

Rich

RE: [CA11] A95 Upgrade
Rich,

Please click here to view a FAQ addressing when a HybridTouch user interface would be recommended. Should the a95 MFD's screen be not be responding correctly to touches when operating the MFD in dry conditions, then the symptom would typically be indicative of a problem with the MFD's touchscreen circuity, necessitating that the MFD be serviced or replaced ... as you are now considering. In this case, it would be recommended that an Axiom Pro 9 S MFD be considered. The CHIRP transducers and CP470 can and should be retained for use with the new MFD. The currently a95 MFD's Power/NMEA 0183/Video input cable and Ethernet (RayNet) cable may simply be unplugged from the a95 MFD's power/communications interface panel and would instead be interfaced to the Axiom Pro 9S MFD's power/communications interface panel. As the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 socket of the Axiom Pro MFDs feature a DeviceNet (M) socket, Raymarine offers DeviceNet (F) to SeaTalkng spur Cables to permit the MFD to be interfaced to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone which has been constructed from SeaTalkng networking components. Should the SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone which has been constructed from third party networking components, then it would be necessary to source a third party cable featuring a DeviceNet (F) plug (to be connected to the MFD's SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 socket on one end and a plug of the proper type and gender to permit mating to a spur socket within your system's backbone.

With regard to radar, it would be recommended that a RD418HD or RD424HD radome be considered for applications in which radar returns from birds are being sought. For those strictly seeking collision avoidance capabilities, a Quantum 2 radome would be recommended.

Unfortunately the Axiom Pro 9 S hybrid is too wide. Is there a touchscreen only version connecting to the aforementioned components? Yhank you.

RE: [CA11] A95 Upgrade
Rich,

Instead of the Axiom Pro 9 S, you may want to consider an Axiom 9 MFD. It features a a touchscreen only interface. However, it does not include a NMEA 0183 communications interface. Accordingly, should you have devices supporting NMEA 0183 communications which need to either supply data to the MFD or receive data from the MFD, then adaptation may be required. Should you provide a list of such devices, then I may be able to recommend a suitable adapter.

Thanks for the rapid response. Checking if there are NMEA 183 connections on the A95. Having trouble finding overall dimensions of AXIOM 9 (E70366-00-LNC) including cover. Thanks.

Rich,

The installation template for the Axiom 9 MFD may be found here.

RE: [CA11] A95 Upgrade
Hi Chuck. The A95 has a Raynet connection to the CP470, Serious XM SR150 (E70161) is connected to the other Raynet connection. The STNG is connected to the N2K network buss Tee via a devicenet cable to N2k cable. What do you recommend for connecting to the Axiom 9 (E70366-00-LNC)?

I was thinking of reconnecting the CP470 to the only Raynet connection on the Axiom 9. Connecting the Axiom 9 N2K connection to the N2K network via a Tee. Can the SR150 be connected to a raynet buss? What parts do I need. Thank you.

RE: [CA11] A95 Upgrade
Rich,

Unlike the a95 MFD, the Axiom MFDs feature only one Ethernet Network (RayNet) socket. Accordingly, a HS5 RayNet Network Switch will need to be installed onboard. The CP470 and SR150 will be unplugged from the a95 MFD and will instead be plugged into the HS5 RayNet Network Switch. The Axiom MFD will be interfaced to the HSt RayNet Network Switch via an appropriate length of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable. When a radome is later added to the system, the Digital Radar Cable will also be connected to the HS5 RayNet Network Switch.

Raymarine offers the A06075 39.4in (1.0m) DeviceNet (F) to SeaTalkng Spur Cable to support interfacing the Axiom MFD to a spur socket within a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone which has been constructed from SeaTalkng networking components.
