[CA11] upgrading E120
Need help with upgrade from E120/DSM300/B744 to Axiom Pro 12. I will be keeping my S3G course computer and ST8002 autopilot head. My deadrise is about 12 degrees. Currently, I have 2x 2" round depth/temp transducers in addition to the B744. I cruise at 8 kts and troll at 2 kts. I want to use round transducers to minimize through hull modification. B175 will be easier to install than B260 or RV212 transducers.

1) Will B175 work well for my application?

1) I want to use 2 Axiom Pro 12 with low and high freq 1KW Chirp B175 transducers. Which Axiom model is more suitable? Axiom PRO 12S or Axiom Pro 12RVX? Is it better to connect one transducer to each axiom unit or using a connector for the two transducers? What other cables and/or adaptors are required? Run from transducer to MFD is about 20'.

2) Can I connect the S3G and ST8002 using the Seatalk1 to SeatalkNG adapter kit?

Thank you.
Charles.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Charles,

Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject.

Q1) Will B175 work well for my application?
A1. Yes. Can I assume that you are seeking to replace the B744V and separate 2" thru-hull transducer?

Q2) I want to use 2 Axiom Pro 12 with low and high freq 1KW Chirp B175 transducers. Which Axiom model is more suitable? Axiom PRO 12S or Axiom Pro 12RVX? Is it better to connect one transducer to each axiom unit or using a connector for the two transducers? What other cables and/or adaptors are required? Run from transducer to MFD is about 20'.
A2) For maximum high power CHIRP sonar performance with the B175 transducer pair, it would be recommended that a pair of Axiom Pro S MFDs along with an CP570 CHIRP Sounder Module. The MFDs and CP570 may be daisy chained together via appropriate lengths of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable. Alternatively, the MFDs and CP570 may each be interfaced to a HS5 RayNet Network Switch via appropriate lengths of RayNet (F) to RayNet (F) Cable.

Q3) Can I connect the S3G and ST8002 using the Seatalk1 to SeatalkNG adapter kit?
A3) Yes. Please see the "SeaTalk" section of the FAQ listed above.

RE: [CA11] upgrading E120
Much appreciated. I will change my order to Axiom PRO S and the CP570.

I am replacing the 2" thru hulls with 3.75" for the B175s. I will re-drill over the 2" thru hulls to avoid creating new holes. I will leave the B744V as is. I don't want to disturb the hull more than necessary. Because of stringers, there isn't enough space for transducers with fairing (B265). Because my max speed is only 15 knots, I assume transducers with fairing block will be acceptable.? Can you confirm before I order my transducers? Thank you.

Charles.

Charles,

Q. Because my max speed is only 15 knots, I assume transducers with fairing block will be acceptable.?
A. I'm not certain what you are inquiring about as the B175 transducers are low profile transducer and accordingly do not require a fairing block. These transducer should not be installed behind any other through hulls (ex. B744V) or these thru-hulls may cause an aerated flow of water to pass over the face of the transducers. The best practice would be to remove the existing transducer(s) and re-glass the holes if there was any concern about aeration of the new transducers due their proximity to the old transducer(s).

Sorry for the confusion and typo.

For a trawler at 8 kt or slower, will the B175 work as well as B265?

RE: [CA11] upgrading E120
Charles,

The B175 transducer should work quit well at trawler speeds.
