[CA11] St 60 wind cups
I have an st60 wind instrument. I replaced the cups just prior to the start of the season, I assume a bird sat on them and broke them. At the start of this season, they fell onto my deck and into the water, never even having used them once. They were mounted professionally. I now need another set of replacement cups. Can I replace just the cups? Why do they continually break? Is there anything I can do to prevent this? It’s like $150 each time to send someone up my mast to have them replaced.

Kindly aidvse.

RE: [CA11] St 60 wind cups
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum dcneuro,

As you have suggested birds are the most common cause of damaged/broken wind transducer cups. To that end, a number of third parties have developed bird deterrents for anemometers. One such sailing article on the subject may be found here. The part number for the service kit for the R28170 Masthead Wind Transducer is R28170. The service kit includes the cups, wind vane, and vane weight. No special tools or skills are required to install the parts of this service kit. The wind transducer cups are held to the transducer shaft via a screw which threads into the shaft. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing where one may purchase/order parts for Raymarine products.

RE: [CA11] St 60 wind cups
dcneuro,

Q. Is Raymarine E28081 compatible?
A. Negative. The R28170 Masthead Wind Transducer (shown below) is exclusively designed for use with the A28167 Masthead Wind Transducer Service Kit. The ST60 Masthead Wind Transducer is not designed to accommodate service kit parts from earlier Raymarine masthead wind transducer designs.

RE: [CA11] St 60 wind cups
dcneuro,

The referenced product description is incorrect in its applicability to the R28170 Masthead Wind Transducer which was first introduced for the ST60 Wind Instrument. The vendor will be notified accordingly.

The part that you referenced is over $300 on Amazon. Sound high as I purchased one last year, which is now in the sea, and it was under $50. Suggestions?

RE: [CA11] St 60 wind cups
dcneuro,

You appear to be looking at the replacement masthead rather than the service kit. As indicated within my earlier post, the correct part number for the Masthead Wind Transducer Service Kit for ST60 Wind Transducers is A28167. When I searched for this part on Amazon this morning, it yielded the following Raymarine A28167 Wind Vane & Cups for Select Raymarine Transducers Marine RV Boating Accessories Amazon web page where it was being sold for $94. Others referenced on this same web page were selling the kit for as low as $53.
