[DG11] Sea talk fail
Hello my Raymarine ST6001 control head failed the other day. It just up and quit. It had been working just fine. Borrowed an older ST4000 which lights up but gives a STLK FAIL indication. Please help me understand what is the most likely problem and how to proceed.

Ron

RE: [DG11] Sea talk fail
Hi Ron,

Firstly the ST4000 display head is not a direct replacement for the ST6001 display head, the reason for this is that the ST4000 Display head also contains all the computer and power electronics for the autopilot, the St6001 is simply a control unit to operate the external course computer which then contains the computer and power electronics for the autopilot.

Fitting the ST4000 to a system which has its own course computer will likely trigger a whole series of alarms and STLK FAIL would be one of them.

STLK FAIL usually refers to the failure of the SeaTalk network, something is triggering a short circuit between the yellow wire and the Red wire or Screen, once the cause of this fault is removed the system will then operate correctly again.
Details of how to fault find can be located here

Ideally you need to find an ST6001 or ST6002 control unit to replace your defective unit.

Regards

Derek
