[CA11] Matrix GX2100 to eS Series 128 NMEA 0183 wiring
PROBLEM: AIS targets are not displaying on the chart. I'm not sure the wiring is correct for port 1 and port 2 between the gx2100 and the eS128. I spoke to Standard Horizon and they advised:

-The 2100 receives GPS data on the Blue wire. This is an input to the radio. Connect the TX(+), Data Out wire of the GPS.

-The Green wire should be attached to TX (-), RX (-) and or ground. Connect this to the black ground wire or (-) wires on the GPS.

-The output of DSC will occur on the Gray wire at 4800 speed. Output leaving the radio. Connect this to the RX(+), Data In GPS wire.

-The output of AIS will occur on the Brown wire at 38400. Output leaving the radio. Connect to a different RX(+) than the one used above. The GPS needs to be setup for NMEA 0183 (38400 baud rate) in this installation. This must be a different input port than the one used for DSC.

Here's how the eS128 is currently wired:

GX2100 to eS128
Blue (TX+) to Yellow Receive + Port 1 4800 Baud
Green (TX-) to Brown Output - Port 1 4800 Baud
Green (TX-) to Green Input - Port 1 4800 Baud
Gray (Output) to White Receive + Port 1 4800 Baud
Brown (RX+) to Orange/White Receive + Port 2 38400 Baud

Is this wiring correct? Other than turning AIS on the eS128 and configuring ports 1 and 2 to the correct baud rates, are there other options that must be set to specific values to display targets on screen?

Thanks for the assistance from this group.

RE: [CA11] Matrix GX2100 to eS Series 128 NMEA 0183 wiring
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Jim,

For DSC support:
GX2100 4800 NMEA 0183 IN+ (blue) to MFD Port 1 NMEA 0183 OUT+ (yellow)
GX2100 NMEA 0183 Ground (green) to MFD Port 1 NMEA 0183 OUT- (brown)
GX2100 4800 NMEA 0183 OUT+ (gray) to MFD Port 1 NMEA 0183 IN+ (white)
GX2100 NMEA 0183 Ground (green) to MFD Port 1 NMEA 0183 IN- (green)

For GX2100s w/internal AIS receiver, additionally:
GX2100 38400 NMEA 0183 OUT+ (brown) to MFD Port 2 NMEA 0183 IN+ (orange/white)
GX2100 NMEA 0183 ground (green) to MFD Port 2 NMEA 0183 IN- (orange/green)

MFD NMEA 0183 Port 2 configured to "AIS 38400"

- Configure the MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 1 Setting (HOME->SET-UP->SYSTEM SETTINGS->NMEA SET-UP->NMEA INPUT PORT 2) to NMEA 4800.
- Configure the MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 2 Setting (HOME->SET-UP->SYSTEM SETTINGS->NMEA SET-UP->NMEA INPUT PORT 2) to AIS 38400.
- To view AIS objects within the MFD's Chart application, configure the AIS overlay (MENU->PRESENTATION->OVERLAYS->AIS) to ON.
- Verify that the MFD has acquired a GPS position FIX

Should the above have been satisfied, then examine the MFD's Port 1 RX buffer to verify that $AIVDM NMEA 0183 sentences are being received from the GX2100.
