Evolution autopilot S-ing

The reported symptoms are typically associated with old autopilot software and/or poor speed through water data. The first action to be taken in correcting this issue would be to ensure that the Evolution autopilot components have been updated with the latest available Raymarine product software updates. Please note that after performing the R4 Evolution autopilot software update, a complete calibration, to include dockside wizard and short cruise (to determine deviation table), must be performed. Please additionally note that the R4 Evolution Autopilot Software update files are included within the a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFD v17.45 download. As such, should the option to update all system components be chosen when updating the software of these MFDs, then the R4 Evolution Autopilot software will be installed within the autopilot's components. Should you not have a compatible Raymarine MFD to support updating the software of the Evolution autopilot components, then the software of the EV-1 Sensor Core, ACU, and p70/p70R components may be updated by a Certified Raymarine Installer or latest available Raymarine product software updates.

A properly calibrated / properly functioning speed through water data (Speed) will permit maximum performance of an Evolution autopilot. Should speed through water data not be available or should the speed through water sensor not be functioning properly, then SOG rather than speed should be selected within the pilot's configuration settings (MENU->SET-UP->AUTOPILOT SET-UP->VESSEL-SETTINGS->SPEED INPUT) ... should the above items have been addressed, then the Speed Input setting should be configured to GPS SOG and the system tested ... irrespective of whether it is believed that the system's speed through water source is functioning correctly. NOTE: The Speed Input setting will not be available if the Calibration Lock feature (MENU->SET-UP->AUTOPILOT CALIBRATION->COMMISSIONING->VESSEL SETTINGS->CALIBRATION LOCK) has been enabled.

Additionally, the Pilot Response setting may be adjusted to permit the autopilot to maintain a tighter course. Setting the Pilot Response to Performance will permit it to hold the tightest course. Setting the Pilot Response to Leisure will follow the course more loosely by making fewer corrections.
