C-80 sfw 5.04 with Radome E52065 scanner. I was not able to overlay radar signal onto the chart [choice grayed out] so set up for side by side sync'd and both N-Up. Attached photo shows that radar display seems to show WPs correctly BUT radar signal [of land] seems reversed. Can someone explain this?
Welcome to the Raymarine Forum jrmlsc,
Please click
here to view a FAQ addressing this subject. When the Radar application is configured to Head Up orientation, is the radar imagery correctly oriented? If not, then the radar will need to be aligned. If so, then it is possible that the heading data being supplied to the system is incorrect. To test, it is recommended that the MFD be configured to display both the "Heading" and "COG" data items, that the vessel be operated at speed on a fixed heading and that these items be compared with one another. Should these data items differ significantly, then the heading data source will need be be linearized to determine the sensed deviation field and then aligned to the correct heading.
After following the guidance from the Moderator I found that I have no Heading sensor and therefore must work around the limitations so identified. My gestalt is that I should:
[1] Config Chart and Radar for Heads-up accepting that the radar images will not be as stable as in the N-Up mode [so told by an experienced boater]
[2] Do not rely on positions of WPs on the radar image because they may be inverted
[3] Accept that viewing the chart and radar side by side there may be some changing mis-alignment [rotation of one] probably caused by the boat shifting its heading slightly between sample times of the two different applications.
[4] Continue to heed advice and use radar under normal conditions so aware of limits during more demanding situations
And thank you to excellent and timely support from Raymarine.
