Using standard CAT5/6 patch cables instead of SeaTalkhs Cables
It is strongly recommended that standard CAT5/6 patch cables not be used in place of SeaTalkhs Cables. Raymarine products featuring a SeaTalkhs socket(s) (ex. E-Series Classic MFDs, C/E-Series Widescreen MFDs, G-Series GPM400, DSM30/300, SR100) are exclusively designed to be used with a shielded marine grade cable which has been terminated a SeaTalkhs (M) plug. While the product's SeaTalkhs port may appear to accept a standard RJ45 (M) plug, upon closer examination, you will find that it lacks a recess to support a standard RJ45 (M) plug's locking tab to secure the plug within the product's SeaTalkhs socket. Use of a standard CAT5/6 patch cable for such purposes will:
- fail to properly secure and align the cable's plug within the device's SeaTalkhs socket,
- fail to protect the device's SeaTalkhs socket from the corrosive effects of the marine environment,
- may lead to intermittent or complete communications failure between the MFD and other networked devices within the system's Ethernet network,
- may result in RF emissions interfering with the operation of other marine electronics and radio equipment,
- may result in RF emissions from other devices interfering with communications within the Ethernet network which is interfacing the Raymarine products to one another,
- may void warranty.
