RE: [CA11] Axiom 7 RV added functionality - Skagit22 - 12-10-18 08:21 PM

Chuck,

Per my other reply I will not be interfacing the 2018 Suzuki DF250. I have begun the removals and new installation work.

One thing I noticed is that the cable from the B744V transducer at the DSM25 only has 6 pins in service, whereas the description of the part we discussed and I ordered (A80491 Y-Cable) is listed as a 25 pin/25 pin/7 pin.

I assume I’m still good to go?

Thx

Doug,

Please attach a photo of the transducer's identification tag which clearly shows the information printed on the tag. The transducer's identification tag should be attached to the plug end of the transducer's cable.

Chuck,

The tag is in very poor shape and in pieces. The identification on the tag is: 31-313-04. REV 02. Is this adequate or do you still need a photo

Doug,

This is an older Airmar transducer which had initially been designed for use with the L365 and L470 fishfinders. It had to be adapted to be in turn be interfaced to a DSM25. While it is plausible that double adaptation may permit the transducer to be used with the Axiom RV MFD, no guarantees could be made.

Wellllll.... crapolla :-(.

Is “double adaptaiton” a.....plug it in and see if it works strategy? Or is there a known “double adaptation” cable? Previously discussed and specified cable on order now, part number A80491

If I need to change out the transducer are there higher compatibility recommendations? Part numbers?

-New B744V 600watt.....mating with the Y-cable previously specified and now on order?

-B60 20° tilted 600watt....mating with same Y-cable as above?

-B164 20° tilted 1Kw....mating with same y-cable?

Doug,

Q1. Is “double adaptaiton” a.....plug it in and see if it works strategy? Or is there a known “double adaptation” cable? Previously discussed and specified cable on order now, part number A80491.
A1. This is an untested and supported configuration ... hence the previous specification that results cannot be guaranteed. The currently installed transducer should have required an adapter cable to mate it to the DSM25. If it were to work, this adapter cable would need to have been installed between the A80491 Y-Cable and the transducer cable's plug.

Q2a. New B744V 600watt.....mating with the Y-cable previously specified and now on order?
A2a. For maximum flexibility moving forward, I generally recommend that one consider a CP370 compatible transducer. Unfortunately, doing so would me that you return the A80491 Y-Cable and instead use an A80492 Y-Cable. The CP370 compatible version of the B744V is A66091. The version of the B744V which is compatible with the A80491 Y-Cable is part #A66090.

Q2b. B60 20° tilted 600watt....mating with same Y-cable as above?
A2b. Straight shooting transducers will generally yield better performance than tilted element transducers ... would recommend A2a over A2b. For maximum flexibility moving forward, I generally recommend that one consider a CP370 compatible transducer. Unfortunately, doing so would me that you return the A80491 Y-Cable and instead use an A80492 Y-Cable. The CP370 compatible version of the B60 20° tilted 600watt is E66085. The version of the B60 20° tilted 600watt which is compatible with the A80491 Y-Cable is part #E66087.

Q2c. B164 20° tilted 1Kw....mating with same y-cable?
A2c. Straight shooting transducers will generally yield better performance than tilted element transducers ... would recommend A2a over A2c. For maximum flexibility moving forward, I generally recommend that one consider a CP370 compatible transducer. Unfortunately, doing so would me that you return the A80491 Y-Cable and instead use an A80492 Y-Cable. The CP370 compatible version of the B164 20° tilted 600watt is A102113. The version of the B164 which is compatible with the A80491 Y-Cable is part #A80173.

RE: [CA11] Axiom 7 RV added functionality - Skagit22 - 12-15-18 11:14 AM

Compatability Update: The cable connector from the above stated model of B744 transducer mates with the A80491A y cable. The 7 pin Y cable connector only has 6 pins inside. So physical fit-up is good....on to in-water testing when the weather allows.

Chuck, thanks for all of your help to date!

Startup: can I safely do a start up of the system out of the water (trailer in my driveway) if for only a few minutes?

I have both the new RV-100 and old B744 connected to the Axiom 7RV head unit. I also have the powered Converter for NMEA 0183 data connected for GPS data to the VHF per your guidance. ....if I have interpreted correctly :-)

Doug,

I would recommend disconnecting the transducers before testing the system.
