Should the other autopilot components (i.e. ACU and control head) be temporarily disconnected from the SeaTalkng backbone and should the backbone be powered via a SeaTalkng Power Cable, then the MFD should indeed see the EV-1 Sensor Core and will perform the update. Otherwise, as you have indicated, the EV-1 Sensor Core's software may be updated by a Raymarine technician.
