[CA11] Radar guards - jrpsmith - 01-08-20 07:54 PM

We are replacing our old Raymarine 2kw 18" analog radar with the new Quantum 2. The existing (circa 2007) 3rd party stainless steel guard fits perfectly (centred in the upper ring and mounting holes lined up). However, I notice that the newer 3rd party guards tend to be lower in height.

Our existing guard circles 11cm up the radar. (For reference, that happens to align precisely with the bottom of the burgundy "Raymarine" label letters, excluding the y, on both the old and new radars).

What is the maximum height that the ring of a radar guard can be without blocking the radar?

Thank you.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum jrpsmith,

Raymarine has issued not specifications regarding the maximum height of radome guards. That said, such guards should not be installed within the beam of the radar or radar performance may be adversely affected. For a radar guard which will be tight to the Quantum/Quantum 2 radome's case, it would be advised that the guard not be higher than the seam between the radome's white cover and its black base (approx. 1-1/4" above the base).
