[CA11] Axiom Pro to S1000 - Mr_Marty - 01-14-20 07:19 PM

What do you suggest for the best method to interface an Axiom Pro to an S1000 autopilot?

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Mr_Marty,

While the S1000 may be interfaced to a chartplotting system via NMEA 0183 or SeaTalk communications, I generally recommend that it be interfaced via SeaTalk communications when interfaced to a Raymarine chartplotting / MFD product. To do so the S1000 be interfaced to the SeaTalk (yellow) socket of a a SeaTalk to SeaTalkng Converter. The SeaTalk to SeaTalkng alone may constitute part or an entire powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone. The MFD's NMEA 2000 socket features a DeviceNet (M) plug, which will be adapted to be interfaced to a spur socket within this backbone.

So we just finished this interface. The "Autopilot Control" in the Axiom setup menu won't go to the on position. Is there a way to test it without the boat being in motion with an established COG?

Mr. Marty,

Q1. So we just finished this interface. The "Autopilot Control" in the Axiom setup menu won't go to the on position.
A1. The Autopilot Controls feature of Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL MFDs is exclusively supported when the Axiom/Axiom Pro/Axiom XL MFD system has been interfaced to an Evolution autopilot. While the Autopilot Controls feature of Raymarine MFDs cannot be used with other autopilots, this does not however mean that other autopilots which have been correctly interfaced to a Raymarine MFD cannot be used to track to a waypoint or to follow a route. It simply means that the autopilot's control head must be used to engage Standby, Auto, and Track mode or to perform changes to the autopilot's locked heading. An autopilot's Track mode may be entered after the MFD has been commanded to Go To Waypoint / Cursor Position or to Follow Route. The latter action sends steering information to the autopilot course computer to support track mode.

Q2. Is there a way to test it without the boat being in motion with an established COG?
A2. Negative.
