As suggested within the referenced FAQ, a SmartCraft to NMEA 2000 Engine Gateway will be installed between SmartCraft backbone and the powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 marine electronics backbone to which the MFD will be interfaced as a spur.
