[CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - jfxk - 02-25-20 10:28 AM Prior to upgrading or purchasing a Lighthouse III capable display we would like to know what polars are currently available. Is there a list of available polars we can see somewhere or could you send or post such a list? We do not have a display to reference at this time with Lighthouse III running on it. Thanks. RE: [CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 02-26-20 09:26 AM Welcome to the Raymarine Forum jfxk, As of LightHouse 3 v3.11.42, the polars listed below are supported. As indicated within the LightHouse 3 Advanced Operations Guide, additional polars ma be added to a future LightHouse 3 software update by sending them to [email protected]. Raymarine is also considering inclusion of a feature akin to the LightHouse 2 feature of reading polars from a user selected file. Raymarine is also considering inclusion of the polars list within the LightHouse 3 Advanced Operations Guide. RE: [CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - jfxk - 03-21-20 01:08 PM Hi again Chuck - on the topic of polars and laylines for sailboat racing now having purchased the Axiom 9 RV, seatalk ng starter kit and microtalk wireless gateway to interface with my Ray t-101 (t112 and t120 wireless wind instruments) it appears from the Lighthouse 3 detailed instructions I may need Speed through water to use polars. The boat already has an i40 for depth which works fine and speed through water (STW) sensor. Question 1: Since we have seaweed issues where we sailboat race STW transducers are problematic due to fouling which is why none is now installed. Is it possible to use speed over ground (SOG) to display laylines instead of STW. This would be best because of both fouling of speed transducers and poor quality current data in our area in navionics and other chart apps. Question 2: If Lighthouse 3 laylines/startline/polars cannot be made to work without STW what STW transducer (no depth needed) would be easiest to interface with my Axiom 9 RV? (I purchased the Axiom 9 RV and RV transducer to also use on my powerboat which we use for fishing) We race a small boat (s2 7.9) so less is better) Thanks for your patience John RE: [CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 03-23-20 08:20 AM John, Q1: Since we have seaweed issues where we sailboat race STW transducers are problematic due to fouling which is why none is now installed. Is it possible to use speed over ground (SOG) to display laylines instead of STW. This would be best because of both fouling of speed transducers and poor quality current data in our area in navionics and other chart apps. A1: Negative. Please note the entry in the polars is based upon True Wind data. As indicated within the FAQ addressing the subject of True Wind calculation, speed through water (STW) data is required. Question 2: If Lighthouse 3 laylines/startline/polars cannot be made to work without STW what STW transducer (no depth needed) would be easiest to interface with my Axiom 9 RV? (I purchased the Axiom 9 RV and RV transducer to also use on my powerboat which we use for fishing). A1. With the exception of 50kHz/200kHz fishfinder transducer featuring a paddle wheel and 50kHz/200kHz fishfinder transducer joined to a fishfinder speed/temp transducer, no STW transducers may be directly interfaced to the Axiom RV MFD. As MFDs running the latest LightHouse 3 software can calibrate (multi-point calibration actually) speed transducers which have been interfaced to an iTC-5 Analog Instrument converter, it would be recommended that an iTC-5 be installed as a backbone component of the system's powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 backbone and that an Raymarine’s web siteanalog instrument thru-hull speed/temp transducer be interfaced to the iTC-5. RE: [CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - jfxk - 03-23-20 09:03 AM Thanks for the speedy answer Chuck - why wouldn't a through hull 50kHz/200kHz fishfinder transducer featuring a paddle wheel be a good way to provide STW since it would connect directly to the MFD. If it would be good which transducer would you recommend. Adding an ITC-5 and a transducer such as the ST800/P120 adds quite a bit of cost to the system. Thanks RE: [CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 03-23-20 09:12 AM John, Q. Why wouldn't a through hull 50kHz/200kHz fishfinder transducer featuring a paddle wheel be a good way to provide STW since it would connect directly to the MFD. A. As speed through water transducers feature non-linear error, utilizing a system supporting multi-point STW calibration will ensure greatest STW accuracy across a broader range of speeds. The Fishfinder application supports a single speed offset, and as such would be most accurate at the speed that the vessel was operating when calibrated. As such, those who are serious about performance sailing (i.e. anyone seeking to maximize the use of the MFD advanced sailing features) will opt for a system supporting multi-point STW calibration. RE: [CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - jfxk - 03-23-20 09:22 AM Got it, Thanks! RE: [CA11] Polars now in Lighthouse - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 03-23-20 12:52 PM You're welcome. |
