Adding AIS650 to existing NMEA0183 Network - bbayne - 06-11-16 11:32 AM

I currently have installed:

E80 Classic
125 GPS
S3G SmartPilot
SmartController
ST60 Speed, Depth, Wind
ST6001+
E55059 MUX
ICOM m422 VHF with DSC
FloScan 9500 with GPS interface

I am looking to install an AIS650 to this network. I've attached my current configuration including the AIS650. Can you please look this over and let me know if this is correct or what should change.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum bbayne,

We would be glad to look at your system diagram. However there were no files attached to thread which you have submitted. Should attach a system diagram to a response to this thread, then we will gladly comment on it.

Sorry. I thought I had attached the diagram. Let's try again.

Thanks!

bbayne,

Your chart detailing the NMEA 0183 connections appears to be correct.

Refreshing my memory on this as I haven't added AIS yet. Looking over the connection chart (attached again), I'm wondering why the S3G is required to an NMEA Out to the MUX. Isn't this data already contained in the ST1 network? Or does fast heading output data only get transmitted via NMEA?

I took this from the S3G manual:
a NMEA 1 output so the radar/chartplotters can use the fast
heading output from the course computer to enable MARPA
(see page 37)

Does this answer my question above or does fast heading output data also talk via ST1?

Thanks!

A1. Fast 10Hz heading data is not available from a SeaTalk bus ... hence the reason for interfacing the NMEA 0183 output from the autopilot course computer to the MFD via the MUX.

Thank you. Is there other data that is not transmitted via ST1 from the E80 MFD or S3G?

Bruce,

As autopilot course computers are not designed to be full NMEA 0183 to SeaTalk data bridging devices, it is not recommended that you do as suggested. It is recommended that the equipment be interfaced as had been previously recommended.
