s1000 auto pilot conection to a128 MFD or upgrade - Doncloes - 08-04-16 02:55 PM

Hi,
I recently installed a a128 MFD, with downvision sonar and also connected to previous install DSM 300, Also installed and connected by nema a RAY 70 VHF with AIS. I tried connecting my s1000 to the MFD by nema and the AIS started to go in and out of connection with the MFD. I did not see if the pilot connected because there was no vessel movement. The AIS and Pilot connection was made to the MFD in parallel, is that the correct way to connect? I really want a good working pilot. The s1000 with wireless remote would not work reliable, the CU would disconnect and the s100 would just go off sporadically.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Doncloes,

When interfaced to a Ray70 via the MFD's NMEA 183 Port 1, the MFD's NMEA Port 1 must be configured to AIS 38400 (i.e. 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications). The S1000 only supports 4800 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications. In this case, it would be recommended that the MFD and Ray70 each be interfaced as spurs to a powered and properly terminated SeaTalkng backbone, leaving the MFD's NMEA 0183 port 1 available to be interfaced to the S1000. When so interfaced the MFD's NMEA 0183 Port 1 will need to be configured to "NMEA 4800".
