AIS on i70 - firstlight38 - 10-19-16 07:00 PM I have GX2150 VHF with AIS receiver communicating to my a128 through NMEA at 38400 and all is fine on the a128. i see the targets etc. The issue is that I want to see it in the i70 AIS display. The a128 and i70 are connected through the seatalk ng network so I was assuming that data is available on the network. Any ideas how to get this data to display on the i70? When I look for transducers on i70 I just see the ITC-5 (depth, speed, wind). thanks. RE: AIS on i70 - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 10-20-16 08:38 AM Welcome to the Raymarine Forum firstlight38, Raymarine's MFDs are not designed to bridge AIS data received from a NMEA 0183 source to SeaTalkng. Instead of interfacing the GX2150 to the MFD's NMEA 0183 leads, it is recommended that the GX2150 instead be interfaced to a SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 data bridging device supporting NMEA 0183 AIS sentences (ex. Actisense NGW-1-AIS, etc.). By doing so, the GX2150 will receive GPS data from the SeaTalkng backbone to support its DSC communications features and will additionally support transmission of GPS data to the SeaTalkng backbone for use by the system's a/c/e/eS/gS-Series MFDs and i70 MFIDs. Please additionally note that the i70 MFID require heading data or that the vessel be making way and receiving GPS COG to display AIS target data. RE: AIS on i70 - firstlight38 - 10-20-16 12:49 PM Thanks Chuck. I am assuming your E70196 would do the job? How about tying it to my S1 course computers NMEA input? It is already tied to a ST NG converter? RE: AIS on i70 - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 10-20-16 01:49 PM firstlight38, The E70196 VHF NMEA 0183 to STng Converter Kit cannot be used to bridge data transmitted from a NMEA 0183 talker (i.e. the GX2150) to a SeaTalkng backbone. The E70196 VHF NMEA 0183 to STng Converter Kit exclusively supports NMEA 0183 transmission (not reception) and is very limited in the NMEA 0183 sentences that it will transmit (i.e. only the most common NMEA 0183 GPS data sentences (GGA, RMC, VTG) required by DSC VHF radios). Autopilots are neither designed to process NMEA 0183 sentences including AIS data (ex. VDO, VDM, ALR, etc.) nor support 38400 BAUD NMEA 0183 communications. Please see my initial response for a recommended SeaTalkng / NMEA 2000 to NMEA 0183 data bridging device supporting NMEA 0183 AIS sentences. |
