SR150 wiring - Lazybones - 11-10-16 07:52 AM

We are installing the SR150 weather receiver.

The power cable has 3 wites, red, black, white. The instructions say a thin black wire (drain) shiuld be connected ti an RF ground.

1. Therevis no thin black wire, but there is a white wire.
2. What can be used for an RF ground or does connecting to the negative solve the problem?

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Lazybones,

The SR150's red lead should be connected to a +12/24 VDC power circuit. The SR150's black lead should be connected to battery negative. The SR150's white drain lead should be connected to the vessel's RF ground / bonding cable.

Wnat happens if the white lead drain wire is not used?

Lazybones,

Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject. Per this FAQ, electrical bonding and RF drains are intended to prevent static electricity build-up that can interfere with radio and navigational equipment. Proper bonding will also assist in prevention of galvanic corrosion and with lightning protection by allowing the current to pass through the vessel's structure with minimum arcing. Accordingly, Raymarine products are designed with drain leads/terminals.
