i70 v. i70s Differences - mlpayne9367@gmail.com - 12-20-16 09:46 AM

What is the difference between the i70 (retired) and the i70s ? Is it just styling - the i70s is glass bridge and matches well with the E-series ?

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum mlpayne9367,

As you have suggested, the i70S Instrument Displays were introduced in part to match the glass bridge styling of Raymarine's most eS and gS Series MFDs. These same styling changes are found within the recently introduced p70S and p70RS autopilot control heads. From the standpoint of software features and functions, the i70 and i70S are functionally equivalent. The i70s supports an LCD brightness of 1,200 cd/m2 (candelas per square meter or Nits), while the i70 supported a maximum LCD brighness of 700 Nits. In seeking NMEA 2000 compliance and certification, these newly introduced products feature a single SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 communications port instead of the pair of SeaTalkng/NMEA 2000 communications ports found within the i70, p70, and p70R ... the NMEA 2000 standard permits only one device per spur, whereas the SeaTalkng communications protocol had permitted up to three devices to daisy chained within a single spur.

Chuck

Are you able to light up the lower buttons in the i70s?

The i70 did not have this feature.

Alan,

Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject. The buttons of the i70 MFID were indeed designed with backlighting.

So,
I guess that the i70 did not have backlit buttons, but the new i70s does and that your FAQ updated today does not apply to the i70.

Alan,

Per my last response, the i70 was indeed manufactured with backlit buttons. Should you have dimmed the i70's backlight level at night and not witnessed backlighting of its buttons, then your i70 may have had a problem with its backlighting circuitry. The i70S also features backlit buttons.
