On/Off switch for Quantum radar - BosSH - 12-20-16 08:43 PM I am installing 2 ES78 MFD's and a Quantum radar. The positive wires from the power cables of all three devices will run to a dedicated positive bus which will be controlled by a single breaker. Additionally, each positive wire will have its own in-line fuse. Is this an acceptable way to wire the radar, or does the power cable to the Quantum radar need its own on/off switch as well; i.e., will the master MFD provide the needed on/off control? RE: On/Off switch for Quantum radar - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 12-21-16 09:13 AM Welcome to the Raymarine Forum BosSH, Q1: Does the power cable to the Quantum radar need its own on/off switch as well? A1: Per the FAQ found here, it is recommended that radomes and open array pedestals be powered from a dedicated power circuit which may be switched ON/OFF without affecting the power state of the system's other marine electronics devices. This referenced FAQ also explains the reason behind the recommendation for such a switch. RE: On/Off switch for Quantum radar - Istream - 01-10-17 10:46 AM Chuck, Per the link you provided, it seems that the dedicated radar power switch is intended mainly to allow troubleshooting of a failed wifi connection between the Quantum and the MFD(s). If the Quantum uses a wired data connection, would you still recommend a dedicated power switch for the Radar? Thanks. RE: On/Off switch for Quantum radar - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 01-11-17 11:31 AM Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Istream, Whether interfacing with a Quantum radome via a wired Ethernet connection or via Wi-Fi, it is recommended that Quantum radomes be powered from a dedicated switched power circuit to permit the radome to be restarted without affecting the power state of the system's other marine electronics products. RE: On/Off switch for Quantum radar - Istream - 01-12-17 10:34 PM Thanks, Chuck. RE: On/Off switch for Quantum radar - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 01-13-17 09:04 AM You're welcome. |
