EV-100 new out of the box does not work - carolinamudwalker - 02-25-17 11:27 AM

System set up as an ACU-100 basic system. No other components connected. Comes up in standby. Menu gives 3 options: MODE,RESPONSE LEVEL,& PILOT VIEW. No other options. originally ACU unit came up solid green, now red then 2 short green and then solid green. From day one there was no dockside wizard or any wizard. Compass heading is 50 deg. off. moving the EV-1 flux gate makes no difference. Tried to cross the Caribbean sea from Bonaire to Porto Rico. At first it seemed to hold a course in spite of being 50 deg. off, later that night it started hunting 15-20 deg. left, then right. 150 miles out and 300 to go we aborted and returned to Bonaire.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Bob,

As it is quite possible that the software within the autopilot's components is not current and/or mismatched, it is recommended that you determine the versions of software within the EV-1 Sensor Core, ACU-100, and p70 Autopilot Control Head (MENU->SET-UP->DIAGNOSTICS->ABOUT SYSTEM). Should any of the autopilot's components not be operating with the latest available Raymarine product software updates, then it is recommended that these components be updated with latest software. Should the system not include a compatible Raymarine MFD having a SeaTalkng communications interface, then it is recommended that the autopilot components be brought to your Raymarine dealer to be updated with the latest software or that a Raymarine installer be contacted to visit the boat to update the software within the autopilots. Alternatively, the autopilot components may be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to have the software within them updated.

Upon completion of the software updates or if the Evolution autopilot components already have the latest software installed within them, then please click here to view a FAQ addressing actions to be taken (including resetting the autopilot, re-execution of the Dockside Wizard, and cruise to determine deviation and handling characteristics).

Should problems persist thereafter, then please additionally respond with the following information:
- Please respond with the year, make, model, and displacement of your sailboat
- The maximum deviation detected by the autopilot (MENU->SET-UP->DIAGNOSTICS->ABOUT PILOT) ... scroll to the very bottom of the displayed autopilot information to find the maximum detected DEVIATION.
- Whether the autopilot has been interfaced to a source of GPS data or Speed through water data ... speed data (SOG or speed through water) is an essential data item for proper operation of Evolution autopilots.
