smart pilot x5 shut down - blavin1 - 05-26-17 01:54 PM

During a straight course sailing...auto pilot shut down...message said.."current limit"....now remains on stand by and can't get it to go to auto setting. Motor to wheel is free, no jamming, all wiring and connections checked and in good order. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum blavin1,

Q1. During a straight course sailing...auto pilot shut down...message said.."current limit"....now remains on stand by and can't get it to go to auto setting. Motor to wheel is free, no jamming, all wiring and connections checked and in good order.

A1. The reported symptom may occur if the autopilot encounters too much resistance in the act of steering the vessel. This is typically an indication of insufficient power, an undersized autopilot (the X5 Wheel & Tiller Pilots are rated for vessels having a maximum fully laden weight (dry weight + 20%) of 16,500 lbs.), or a failure of the autopilot's steering actuator. It is recommended that the vessel be connected to shore power, that its batteries be permitted to fully charge, and that afterwards and while still connected to shore power that the autopilot be tested again. Should the problem persist and the autopilot be correct for this vessel, then it would be recommended that the autopilot course computer and drive actuator be sent to Raymarine’s Product Repair Center to be bench checked / serviced.
