Fishfinder range locking onto large concentrations of fish - Chuck - Raymarine - Moderator - 07-19-17 10:39 AM Fishfinder range locking onto large concentrations of fish The fishfinder screen images below show the bottom being tracked with the system automatically picking a depth range with a large school of fish while the boat anchored. Should very strong returns from large concentrations of marine organics or downrigger [censored] be encountered, then the fishfinders which have been configured for Auto ranging may indeed interpret the returns as bottom and adjust the range accordingly. Under such conditions, configuring the fishfinder's range from AUTO to MANUAL and then adjusting the range to a depth which is slightly greater than the actual depth of the water (check the spot soundings or depth contours displayed on the chartplotter or paper chart) will typically address the problem. Under extreme conditions, it may be necessary to make adjustments to the Gain setting to be able to separate organics from the bottom. RAYFAQ# |
