(DG) Rudder reference unit addition - okbayou - 12-09-17 06:14 AM I have an Evolution auto pilot on a IP27 sailboat with wheel drive and an ACU-100. If I add a "Rudder reference unit" will it increase the performance? I have had instances where the wheel drive hit the stop, I assume the reference unit would prevent that. Trying to justifiy the added expense. RE: (DG) Rudder reference unit addition - Derek - Raymarine - Moderator - 12-11-17 05:56 AM Hi okbayou Thank you for your enquiry. Fitting a rudder reference to any autopilot will always improve performance, it will add the electronic end stop feature that you are looking for. It will also help enhance autopilot performance since it will provide very accurate positional feedback to the ACU in cases where there may be some free-play or slack in the steering system. A final point will be that the Rudder Reference unit will also provide a display of rudder angle position when the autopilot is in STANDBY - helpfull when manoeuvring. Thanks |
