(DG) Auto Pilot Bleeding - Wonderly - 02-01-18 09:04 PM

Just finished installing my auto pilot. Do I perform bleeding on the auto pilot first or the steering cylinder?

Hi Wonderly

Thank you for your enquiry.

We would suggest bleeding the Steering cylinder first, then the pump.

The pump is easily bled by selecting AUTO on the autopilot and initiating a Starboard turn, ( 2 x +10 course change buttons), then turning the boat's steering wheel continuously to port - this will mean the the rudder/ steering leg remains stationary, BUT the hydraulic fluid is pumped round in a circuit between the autopilot pump and the steering helm pump, thereby bringing any remaining air bubbles up to the helm pump, where they are safely ventilated.

Keep an eye on the fluid level in the helm pump reservoir to make sure it does not drop too low and allow air back into the system.

regards
