How do I determine if my existing drive unit is a Type 1 or Type 2 Short? My boat displacement is less than 20,000 pounds.

They look similar from the exterior in dimensions. The markings on the case are different, and the gearing within differ.
With the boat less than 20K lbs, it would point toward the Type 1.
You will need to determine by looking at the unit, it will usually say on the motor case where ram extends either Type 1 or Type 2, and a sticker around the back mounting foot with the part number.
M81130 - Type 1 12V
M81131 - Type 2 Short 12V
M81133 - Type 2 Short 24V
