[CA11] What is inside the hump on the back of the a78? - BruceW - 06-18-18 05:04 PM

Is that empty space? Is anything important in there or is it just for looks?

Let say someone wanted to install a ram mount on the back of the unit. Would it be safe to put screws into that plastic hump? Obviously those screws would be sealed to prevent water intrusion.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Bruce,

The hump which you have referenced houses a circuit board with a transformer and a few large capacitors. That said, such breaches to a product's case would quite possibly void the product's warranty. Ram offers mounts having flat bases to accommodate the MFD's trunion bracket. Additionally, the pod / mounting surface in which the MFD will be installed must have sufficient clearances to satisfy the requirements specified within the a-Series Product Dimensions section of Chapter 3.13 Selecting a location of the a/c/e-Series MFD Installation Instructions.
