[CA11] Is my axiom and RV100 in the ballpark? - drewread - 08-02-18 09:25 PM

Hello,

I am new to the world of the Axiom and the RV100 transducer. I have an Axiom 9 installed on my 15' Boston Whaler Super Sport Limited and am quite impressed with it so far. I'm looking for some help and tips in regards to the sonar images and what I am likely seeing.

I have taken a few screenshots and have some questions.

In ScreenShot001:
What are the marks at the 12-15' marks?
What are the large "vertical arcs" near the midpoint?
Is there any way to see more detail in the 3D scan (auto zoom?)
What are the blue marks on the 3D scan?

In ScreenShot002:
Are the blue marks from my propellor, or is that from the hull? Will I be able to eliminate them by moving the transducer (my locations are limited on this hull?)

In ScreenShot003, what are the 'whispy cloud like marks' in the 15' to 28' range?

In Screenshot004, what is the large "ball" likely to be?

In ScreenShot005 and ScreenShot006, what is the large cyan blob at the 10' depth likely to be (also visible on side and bottom RV scans?)

Thanks for your patience, and any help you can provide, as I work my way through recognizing objects on this new machine.

Drew,

Q1. In ScreenShot001:
Q1A. What are the marks at the 12-15' marks?
A1A. The are fish. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject.

Q2. What are the large "vertical arcs" near the midpoint?
A2. This appears to be an upwelling containing suspended organics

Q3. Is there any way to see more detail in the 3D scan (auto zoom?)
A3. Negative

Q4) What are the blue marks on the 3D scan?
A4) The marks which you have referenced are graphical depth references. A1A. The are fish. Please click here to view a thread in which I had previously addressed this subject.

Q2. In ScreenShot002:
Are the blue marks from my propellor, or is that from the hull? Will I be able to eliminate them by moving the transducer (my locations are limited on this hull?)
A2. Possibly ... or more likely prop induced turbulence.

Q3. In ScreenShot003, what are the 'whispy cloud like marks' in the 15' to 28' range?
A3. Organics suspended in the water column

Q4. In Screenshot004, what is the large "ball" likely to be?
A4. Bait

Q5. In ScreenShot005 and ScreenShot006, what is the large cyan blob at the 10' depth likely to be (also visible on side and bottom RV scans?)
A5. Bait
