[CA11] how far can i see if I mount my Quantum radar 8 feet above water vs. 9 etc.? - ray18 - 02-06-19 11:27 AM

Hi,

how far can i see if I mount my Quantum radar 8 feet above water vs. 9 etc.?
My boat deck is about 1 to 2 feet above water line. I want to mount the radar 6 or 7 feet above my boat deck. How far can my radar see?

Is there a Quantum scan range table by height installed on a boat?

I know the max is 24 nm.

Thanks,

Welcome back to the Raymarine Forum ray18,

A1. Please click here to view a FAQ addressing this subject.

Regarding your photo, I wouldn't recommend that anyone consider PVC pipe for a radar tower. It is strongly recommended that a professionally designed / fabricated tower which is constructed from stainless steel and/or aluminum tubing be installed to support radomes or open array pedestals on open hull boats.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, Alluminum arch will be my next step to make sure I get the best results. Coast guard may have issues with my PVC setup too. So, thanks for your quick reply.
