[CA11] Inconsistent Pump size Requirements - Spacer - 02-13-19 10:27 AM

I'm running Merc Verado 175 twins on a 12V system and am in the market for an autopilot. Per Mercury, ram capacity is 163ccs, or 326cc for the pair as they are in parallel. Looking at the Raymarine Drive unit requirements, http://www.raymarine.com/view/?id=579 , this puts me into a type 2 pump.

However, the Verado FAQ (http://forum.raymarine.com/showthread.php?tid=2435 ) recommends the Evo150 (Type 1 pump) for the same setup.

If I decide to go with Raymarine products, I want to be confident that I'm not overpaying for more product than I need, nor will I have a system that can't keep up on a slow troll in sporty seas, so I'm less interested in a "just buy this pump" response as understanding why Raymarine is making two different recommendations on the same setup. If I don't have confidence in Raymarine's recommendations, I will go with another product, so hopefully Raymarine can shed some light here. Thank you.

Welcome to the Raymarine Forum Spacer,

Please note that the FAQ which you have referenced has been recently updated to reflect the change in how Verado engine steering rams had been initially plumbed (series) to how Mercury has since recommended (parallel). Please review this updated FAQ. It would accordingly be recommended that a Type 2 Hydraulic Pump and ACU-400 be purchased for your boat.
